What does Microsoft Silverlight do again?

One of my updates is Microsoft Silverlight. It is supposed to work in Windows and Mac OSX. I heard it is a browser enhancement program for any browser. What does it do because I really don’t see it.

Silverlight is Microsoft’s version of Adobe’s Flash. It’s pretty new and very few people use it, so it’s not really a big deal at this point.

Rumor has it Silverlight is a bit like a program that can be called by a web page, mostly decorative. You would have to find a web page that uses it, and Microsoft would be the best place to look.
