How do I download Silverlight on a Mac?

I’ve downloaded it and for some reason it doesn’t work on the things that it’s supposed to work for (such as listening to PLJ on the internet and playing videos on MLB.com). I put it in my applications folder and everything, but maybe there might be something I might not be doing. I don’t know, I’m kinda new on a Mac so I could be missing something.

Are you sure you download the mac version and installed it!

Geeez, MLB is using Silverlight now? I really don’t like how everytime Microsoft puts out a steaming pile of donkey doo and claims that it is the next ‘big thing’ in online media that so many lemming companies jump off the cliff after it. All Microsoft wants to do is somehow crush Flash, make Silverlight some sort of standard, then charge a royalty fee for its use. They tried to kill Quicktime the same way, and they push HD-DVD because it has their propietary crap in it as well.

In any event, I would suggest getting Persian for Quicktime for your Mac, and getting VLC player as well. Both are free, and I imagine one fo these two things can help you handle Silverlight files, without having to bend over for the evil empire and installing their player on your beautiful Mac.

If you must use the Microcrap software, make sure that you got a DMG file when you downloaded the player, not an EXE file. Close all your browsers before installing, then reopen everything.

After you download the Silverlight plugin for Safari (I assume you’re using Safari?), http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/downloads.aspx#4_0 , it should automatically prompt you to continue with the install. After it’s done, all you should have to do is to close Safari and re-launch it. It’s a browser plugin, not an application, so you don’t need to put it in your Applications folder. If it didn’t install automatically after you downloaded the plugin, maybe try opening the installer manually by double-clicking it?

Firefox appeared (to me) to have the plugin already installed, for I was able to play Silverlight video from mlb.com right away, without installing anything extra. You may want to give Firefox a try, if you haven’t already. ( http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ )
