What is the net work done on the boat by the two locomotives?

A boat being pulled by two locomotives through a canal of length 1.00 km. The tension in each cable is 5.00 multiplied by 103 N, and θ = 15.0°.

What is the net work done on the boat by the two locomotives?

Total Force in the direction of movement(F) = no. of cables x force in the axis of movement
=>F = 2 x T x cosA
=>F = 2 x 5 x 103 x cos15 = 1030 x 0.97 = 994.90 N
Now Work done(W) = Force(F) x distance(s)
=>W = 994.90 x 1000 = 994900 J

    Tx = 2*T*cos15° = 9659 N

    W = Tx*Dx = 9659*1000 = 9.659E6 J

    each one has a component of force along the centerline if the canal 5×10^3 * cos15 = 4830 N

    so the two together pull with 2*4830 = 9659 N

    they pull for 1 km so the work done is 9659 kJ
