Does having a computer programming degree qualify me to work as a game programmer?

I want to be a game programmer so do I need a degree in computer programming or in game development?

Game programming is based on either C++ or Java

Here is the list of skill set expected by employee

C++
Data structures in C++ - Singly and doubly linked list very crucial
Java - some front end GUI developers use Java
some hardware knowledge

    Having a degree will definitely get you started, especially if you have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering. Make sure you’re flexible and learn the specific programming languages that game developers are looking for like C++.
