I want to go in one of these fields. I’m a senior in high school. I want to stay close to home and only one school around offers computer programming. A bunch offer computer science. What is the difference between the two? Can I also get an example of what each job would do?

Programming could be just vocational training, to enable you to program computers in some language or languages and that’s it, just so’s you can get a job say. Computer science would be a more generalized study of computational theory and the various kinds of machines that use it, though you’d probably get some programming training along the way. You could probably spend a lot more time studying that if you wanted to. Depends on what you’re after.

I am new to Silverlight and has chosen it as a gaming platform for my game.

I need to create a multiplayer game using a game lobby for my Final Year Project but I have got no idea on how to start it.

Can anyone please advice me on how to do it?

Is there any sample that anyone has made?

Credits and References will be made if necessary!

I have yet to see any silverlight applications online. I can help in the creation of an AS3 Flash/flex game lobby if you decide to go that way

From what I know, there is a game programming career that one of my friends is currently pursuing. He enjoys games and computers, by the way. I acknowledge the fact that there are other computer programming careers out there other than game programming, but I don’t know what they are. I was thinking in getting a game programming career too, but I’m wondering if there’s other options. So, what kinds of computer programming careers are there?

I know that gaming programming is very difficult and requires a lot of mathematical knowledge.

There are a lot of different careesr in programming:
- Web developer PHP, ASP.net
- Windows Programmer which is probably in most company’s.
- Java programmer for tools on cash registry.
- …

Basically you will always work for a company.

I want to get into some computer programming, what are some programs i can use to start and some websites i can learn from?

Microsoft offers free access to Visual Studio Express with Visual Basic.net, Visual C++ and Visual C#. There are tutorials and online communities on their site. There are more free development applications available from Digital Mars, and from FreeBasic. This is not to mention Ruby, Python, Java and Silverlight.

I currently have Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX, Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5 and Microsoft Silverlight…
Do they all do the same things but 1 of them does it better?
Or is it that certain websites require one or all of them?

No, because even though Microsoft Silverlight is gaining usage, it’s still no substitute for Adobe Flash. Keep flash.
