Programming, .NET, Silverlight & More

Eventually I would like to program games for a living (I know it’s cliché). I’ve been looking at lists of BAs for certain colleges and haven’t decided quite what I’m looking for. Very few schools have an accredited Game Design/Game Development/Game Programming BA (Go Santa Cruz!), but many have both Computer Programming and Software Engineering degrees. What’s the difference between the two? Is Computer Science a good alternative?

I’ve always thought it to just be a different name for the same thing.
Software Engineer makes you sound more impressive though. Kinda like being a "Waste disposal manager" as opposed to "garbage man". I have worked as a programmer for a long time. With one of my employers, my contract also listed me as "Software Engineer", but the job was exactly the same as the "Programmer" ones.

The difference should be listed in the descriptions of the specific studies.
I’m quite curious myself tbh. Could you list a school that has both of them?

I have had my baby swordtail fish in a breeder net for nearly a month now. While reading a different article it seemed that the person was suggesting too long in the net could stunt their growth. How long can I leave them with out causing this to happen? If I let them go right now my Killie fish will eat them.

When I used to breed livebearing fish, I used LOTS of live plants, artificial "breeding grass" and even a divider in one end of my tank to make sure the babies had plenty of places to hide. the divider had tiny holes the babies could get through, but the big ones couldn’t. I still lost a few to hungry adults, but many survived to adulthood.

Hi, I want to develop an application which involve record webcam at client side. And I found out that SilverLight 4 is ready for it. But is it ready to use for commercial application or just for developer?

While technically it might be ready with the features, I don’t know if it is accepted over other web technologies. Silverlight seems to be too late to the game so while it might have the capability, it might not have the audience. My employer (over 50K employees) hasn’t installed it on the desktops and I haven’t installed it at home (4 Windows systems). I’d encourage looking at customer installation statistics to ensure you pick the right platform for your target audience. If this is for a particular customer or a package solution, you can always make it a requirement of the product.

My silverlight got some error and I wanna reinstall it and fix the error.
Control panel has uninstalled, but it still says silverlight is installed in my PC.
I don’t know what to do…

Silverlight is not that easy to get rid of. The left invalid registry entries do cause malfunction of ur system if u have an unclean deletion.
If ur control panel doesnt help,
1. U can try "Uninstall" function of perfect uninstaller. Find it in the uninstall list, click "Uninstall" button n follow its wizard.
2. Reboot ur pc>press F8 into safe mode with network>run perfect uninstaller if u have>look at "Force Uninstall" section of the page.

I’ve been talking to a man at DeVry University, and I’ve decided that computer programming is something I’d enjoy. I don’t know very much about programming, so what are some sites that can teach me a little bit so I can get a headstart in this field? Preferably free of course.

Programming is not an easy field. It’s a way of thinking. There are a ton of free books out there that you can get started on. Chances are you’ll be learning a programming language like Java, C# or Python. Sun’s Java tutorials are very good and there are many forums and free tutorials you can browse through elsewhere on the web. Just google (or yahoo) it.

We did a lab where we combined liquids and looked for precipitates and now we are required to write the Net ionic equation for each of them that had a precipitate. Problem is, i don’t get how… He explained it in class in a ton of different ways, but i never kept up with him.

I need someone to explain every step in finding the net ionic equation…

You should see a precipitate form when you combine lead (II) nitrate and sodium carbonate. Lead (II) carbonate will form, while the sodium and nitrate ions will remain in solution.

Pb2+ + CO3^2- –> PbCO3(s)

Happy new year to all. Although when I first purchased my pc everything worked, after a while and with apparently no reason, everything that uses flash I cannot listen to. I can hear songs from spotify, view movies, listen to cds and all, so the sound works, but no videos from youtube and other stuff like that, like powerpoint presentations with music etc I see them but with no sound. Someone mentioned to me that I should install silverlight and that would solve the problem, but it is a bit more complicated than I thought it was, or maybe I am doing something wrong. I downloaded from the silverlight page but I seem to do something else as that only does not seem to work. Any ideas from the clever IT people? Thanks so much.
Hi, thanks for the reply but I forgot to say that I tried uninstalling and installing flash again with no result.

try installing firefox and then flashplayer.if youtube works from firefox then the allow thirdparty browser add-ons is probs unticked in ie properties .which will stop flash installing. if this cures the problem then do untick it afterwards as it stops a lot of toolbars you dont want installing themselves behind your back.

No … the money withdrawn was either a loan to the owner or a draw down of the owners equity. Either way these are balance sheet transactions not P & L transactions.

I am trying to make a website. I have a template already that I made one Photoshop but I want to get it onto Dreamweaver without slicing. I only have Photoshop Elements so there is no slicing. I know there is a way to do it but I just don’t know how to.

Well…Photoshop makes images. If you save it as a common image type, you can easily use it with any website. You might want to use GIMP to do the slicing.
