Hey I was just wondering, what would be a better route to become a computer programmer?

1) Go to university and get a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and then try to land a programming job after I graduate.

or

2) Go to college and get an advanced diploma for computer programming & analysis (with co-op), try to get a programming job from the co-op placement or from anywhere else. Then eventually try and get a Bachelor of Computer Science.

Which route should I pick?

Both will work, but the latter will look better on a resume as you have practical experience instead of just a degree. However, you can still get practical experience in other ways. Can’t you work in the summer or volunteer or do some other things?

If I am creating a silverlight video game and I want to handle multiple keydown events, like a player pressing the right and up arrow buttons at the same time, how do I do that, since KeyEventArgs only gives me the latest button that was pressed?

Is it by starting a storyboard based on the KeyDown and KeyUp events?

Also, any tips on not making the animated images blur so much? Thanks.

Can someone pls note down all the terms that revolve around computer programming. Terms like syntax and compiler and then some. Also if you could give the meaning to the terms that would be great. Sorry about the bad literature.

here are the basics:

compiler- the pogram which translates the code you write(called the source code) into a sequence of machine language(that which the computer understands)

data type-tells what kind of data a variable holds, say: Integer x, denotes that x is an Integer.

data structure-a mathematical model for data handling, it could be an array(a list with a set number of elements of the same data type) or a linked list(a dynamic array).

control flow structure- are statements that denote loops(while) or conditionals(if and else).

what language do you use?

I am in the PHP development with basic development skill. I want to enhance my skill to master level and also want to start learning .NET to become good .NET developer too. What are the good ways, available resources, good books and other thing that you can suggest me to start with?

There is no subtitute of HARD WORK.
As you said have basic development skill in PHP (Personal Home Page) Skill. you mau buyt Unleashed PHP (Sams publication) practice it for month or so and do a project. After that you may buy Mastering PHP (Sams Publication) and gain mastery in PHP.

for .NET learning, its not advisable to learn 2 language of diff type at one go. fist finish PHP then try for .NET.
for .NET fist use MSDN…
buy Learns 21 days in .NET
Unleased .NET (ASP, C# and VB.NET)
Then go for Master series for each of this language.
you MUST DO Certification in these language.

Good Luck.

I have a beginners class in Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, but the book is worded badly and difficult to use, so, I was looking for a dvd, online video, etc. that could teach the basics of how to use Dreamweaver CS4 for the complete novice? Please help?

This isn’t an answer to your actual question, but general advice:

If you are truly an absolute beginner, *don’t* learn web development from a package like DreamWeaver. Website authoring packages can be very powerful tools in the right hands, but I believe anybody setting out to learn the art should start with fundamentals.

Use notepad.

Google "HTML tutorial" and start from there. Experiment with HTML for a while. Then move on to CSS for styling. When you’re comfortable with that, try a little JavaScript.

If you go on a web developer forum and ask how many of the expert developers use DreamWeaver, you’ll hear something similar from most of them:

"I like its ability to do A or B quickly, but I do 90% of my coding in Notepad++ (or some other plain text editor)."

Anyway, I know that doesn’t answer your question for a DW-CS64 guide, but hopefully it will help anyway.
